The Secrets of Show Jumping Success With Gonzalo Busca

Perseverance took Back on Track Sponsored Athlete Gonzalo Busca from humble beginnings at a local riding school to top placings in the international ring. But it was a dedication to his horses that kept him there.

Based in Wellington, Gonzalo is quickly building a reputation for producing talented horses, delivering clear rounds on the world's biggest stages, and always putting his horses first.

Back on Track shares Gonzalo's commitment to helping his horses prepare, perform, and recover well. We're proud to support riders like him who prioritize their horses on their journey to the upper echelons of equestrian sport.

Keep reading to learn more about Gonzalo Busca and discover why this successful international showjumper uses Back on Track products.

Rising to the Top

Gonzalo was six when his father first introduced him to a riding school.

That introduction sparked something inside him that would last a lifetime. He left home at a young age to pursue a life with horses and embarked on a path that would lead him to become one of Spain's top riders.

After years of hard work and determination, Gonzalo carved out a niche for himself in the competitive equestrian world. Today, he has his own string of horses and a growing list of notable achievements.

Competing Across Continents

Gonzalo is based in Wellington, Florida, the epicenter of American show jumping.

His program includes a growing string of competitive horses at various stages of their careers, which keeps his calendar full throughout the year.

Having shown in both the U.S. and Europe, Gonzalo sees the sport as truly global. Wellington attracts many of the world’s best riders during the winter, making competition just as tough as top European shows.

“Now, competition is difficult everywhere. The big shows in America and Europe are both really tough.”

While Gonzalo has achieved international success as a competitor, he has also produced young horses that went on to achieve success with other riders, which he considers just as rewarding.

Keys to Success

Gonzalo believes success in show jumping isn’t just about natural ability.

“To be patient is a talent. To be consistent, to work hard, to be focused and persistent. That’s just as important as skill.”

Gonzalo currently has several promising younger mounts being carefully developed for the future in his barn.

“We’re really happy because we have a good string of horses. Some are still a little young, but they’re very talented.”

When it comes to evaluating horses, Gonzalo looks beyond talent and scope. For him, it starts with the horse’s mindset.

“The horse has to love the sport and love his job. Ultimately, it’s a partnership. We both need to be motivated and ready to work hard toward the same goal.”

Equine Athletes

To keep his horses both happy and sharp, Gonzalo avoids repetitive routines. Instead, he switches up their work with ring schooling, trail rides, different exercises, and even beach outings when he’s in Spain.

He also carefully monitors each horse’s diet, adjusting every few weeks to maintain peak condition.

At the end of the day, Gonzalo never forgets who the true athletes are. “The rider needs to do a good job, but the real athlete is the horse. They need to be 100% fit to perform, and it’s our job to make sure they’re cared for.”

Whether at home or at a major competition, Gonzalo keeps his management consistent.

Back on Track products are part of his horses’ daily routine, not just reserved for big events. That consistency, he believes, is one of the keys to keeping his horses sound and confident in the ring.

Back on Track

Gonzalo first discovered Back on Track at competitions, noticing how many top riders relied on the products. Encouraged by their feedback, he decided to try them for himself. The results were immediate and undeniable.

“I saw other riders using Back on Track and heard great feedback. Once I tried it, I noticed the horses were happier and healthier, and we started having fewer injuries. Now it’s an important tool in our stable.”

And it’s not just his horses that benefit. Gonzalo also trains in Back on Track’s human apparel, finding the shirts perfect for running, gym sessions, or any kind of exercise. As he puts it, the Back on Track strikes a rare balance: products that both look good and feel good.

“It’s important that the horses feel good, but also that they look good. Back on Track does both.”

Since making Back on Track a permanent part of his program, Gonzalo has noticed a clear difference. His horses recover better, stay healthier, and suffer fewer injuries—an advantage he considers invaluable at the top levels of the sport.

Looking Ahead

The near future is busy for Gonzalo, with a full calendar of upcoming international competitions. Long-term, he’s focused on producing his younger horses into five-star competitors.

“The best is still to come. We have better horses all the time, and we’re working hard for the future.”

Back on Track is proud to support Gonzalo Busca and his horses as they continue their journey at the top of the sport.
