5 Pillars to a Happy and Healthy Senior Dog
Be there for your aging dog!

Sometimes it's hard to accept, but we must remember that dog's age just as we do. And senior dogs have different care requirements than adult dogs and puppies.

Happy Dog, Happy Life

Follow these 5 pillars to guarantee their comfort and happiness in the years to come.

Nutrition: A balanced diet plays a significant role in maintaining your dog's health. Focus on low-calorie, high-fiber foods to avoid obesity and improve gastrointestinal health. Also, antioxidants like fruits and vegetables are crucial to fighting disease.

Exercise: Regular exercise will help your dog maintain their ideal weight while positively impacting its overall health. Your veterinarian will assess what types of activities are safe.

Regular Vet Checkups: Their immune system becomes weaker as your dog ages. Most vets recommend taking your dog for a checkup once every six months.

Oral Health: Dental care is essential and should be performed regularly, preferably daily. If a toothbrush is too irritating, use a gentle dental spray or wipe to remove plaque.

Accommodations: Bone and joint problems, as well as vision loss, can be pretty common. Soft bedding and an easily accessible bed that doesn't require jumping up or down are ideal.

The Three Main Villains

Watch out for the three main illnesses that affect aging canines.

Arthritis: Look if your dog has difficulty standing or sitting. Excess sleep or favoring one limb over another can also be an indicator.

Kidney disease: Look for any decrease in appetite and if they're drinking more water or peeing more frequently. Vomiting and the development of mouth sores can also occur.

Cancer: Look for any abdominal swelling in addition to lumps and discolored skin patches, breathing difficulties, and diarrhea or vomiting.
